How To Grow Mushrooms - Easy Vermiculite Sterilization

How To Grow Mushrooms - Easy Vermiculite Sterilization Video Clips.

tinyurl.com - Grow Your Own mushrooms, step by step instructions! Here's an easy and straight forward way to sterilize your vermiculite using your pressure cooker. Another method people use in order to sterilize their vermiculite for use is to bake vermiculite on a cookie sheet in the oven for 30-60 min, but after some fine verm caught on FIRE in my oven (man, did THAT stink), I decided to go with this safer route. Vermiculite should be sterilized before using it as a "rolled" casing layer on your BRF cakes so it doesn't introduce contaminants, and should be sterilized before applying it as a casing or substrate mixture for bulk grain bins. Vermiculite was once thought to have no nutritive value and thus wouldn't support fungus growth, but spores can settle into the Verm and contaminate your grow just the same if you mix it in, unsterilized. This technique is used by many shroom growers. It is not 100% foolproof, but does an excellent enough job with few enough contaminants as a result that it's worth the small bit of effort. Got questions? Please ask!
